Handmade anniversary and Valentine’s gifts from Felofey

Roses die in four days. A guide to romantic gifts that are still in the house next year — what to give at each anniversary, what to avoid, and when to order.

A dozen red roses in Delhi in February costs about ₹1,200 and has four good days in it. On the fifth, someone quietly carries them to the bin. That is fine for a party. It is a strange thing to give someone on the day you are marking years together.

This is a guide to romantic gifts that are still in the house next year.

The case against fresh flowers on an anniversary

Not that they are a bad gift — they are a lovely one, briefly. The problem is the mismatch. An anniversary is about duration, and you are handing over something designed to last four days.

A crochet rose bouquet (₹649) is the same gesture that stays. Red and pink roses read as romantic without needing explanation, and in a year they are still on the shelf. For long-distance couples the argument is stronger still: they survive the post, and they do not arrive half-dead.

What to give, by year

  • First anniversary. Something you choose rather than buy ready-made. The build-your-own bouquet lets you pick one stem for each month, or their actual favourite flowers rather than the default red rose.
  • Early years, living in a rented flat. A crochet flower pot (₹449). It needs no light, no water and no windowsill, and it moves house with you.
  • Fifth and beyond. Scale the bouquet rather than the price — five stems for five years is a better gift than a bigger generic one.
  • When you live apart. Anything that survives a courier. Handmade crochet does; fresh flowers and chocolate do not.

Valentine’s Day, planned properly

Two practical things about 14 February in India. Florists raise prices steeply in the week before, and couriers are at their most congested — which is exactly when a gift made to order needs more time, not less.

Order by the first week of February. A Felofey bouquet is crocheted after you order it, so the week of the 14th is the wrong time to start.

If you want something smaller than a bouquet, crochet keychains at ₹169 and rose candles at ₹199 both work as the thing you hand over at dinner.

What to avoid

  1. Anything that needs a size. Clothing as a romantic gift is a gamble with a visible outcome.
  2. A bigger version of last year’s gift. Escalation is a trap; you cannot keep going up.
  3. Anything with the date printed on it. It dates the object and limits where it can live. Put the date in the handwritten note instead.
  4. Last-minute fresh flowers. Everyone can tell, because every other bouquet in the restaurant is identical.

Why handmade reads differently

A bought bouquet says you remembered. A handmade one says somebody spent two days making it, and that you chose which flowers went in. At Felofey every bouquet is crocheted by hand in our Delhi studio in cotton yarn on wired stems — which is why a twelve-stem bouquet takes the better part of two days, and why ordering early matters.

Common questions

How long do crochet roses last?

Years. The failure mode is fading in direct sunlight over a long period, not wilting. Our guide to crochet flower bouquets covers the detail.

Can I add a message?

Yes — handwritten, ₹50, and we never put a price in the parcel.

How late can I order for Valentine’s Day?

First week of February to be safe. Delivery is 2–5 working days and the bouquet is made after you order.

Do you deliver across India?

Yes, nationwide, with delivery and gift packing included in the price shown.

Start with the crochet rose bouquet if you want to decide in two minutes, or build your own if the flowers should mean something specific.
