Crochet Flower Bouquets: Flowers That Never Wilt (and What to Pay for Them)

A bouquet of fresh roses in Delhi in May has about three good days in it. You pay ₹800, they look beautiful on Friday, and by Tuesday someone is quietly carrying them to the bin. That is fine for a party. It is a strange thing to send someone who lives alone, or who is far away, or who has just been through something hard.

Crochet flowers solve a narrow, real problem: they are the version of the gesture that stays. Here is what they actually cost, what they are good at, and where fresh flowers still win.

What a crochet bouquet costs in India

Most handmade crochet bouquets sit between ₹500 and ₹1,200 depending on stem count and finishing. Ours are ₹649 for a ready bouquet. That is roughly the price of one decent fresh bouquet from a good florist — except this one is still there next year.

The price is mostly labour. A single crochet rose is about forty minutes of work: the bloom, the calyx, the wrapped stem, the leaves. A twelve-stem bouquet is the better part of two days. Yarn is cheap; hands are not.

The three ready bouquets, and who each one suits

The Crochet Rose Bouquet (₹649) is the safe, correct answer for anniversaries and proposals. Red and pink roses read as romantic without needing explanation. If you are choosing under time pressure and cannot get it wrong, choose this.

The Crochet Tulip Bouquet (₹649) is gentler. Tulips carry less weight than roses — they work for a friend, a colleague leaving, a mother, a new flat. Send tulips when roses would be too much.

The Crochet Bunny Bouquet (₹649) tucks a small crocheted rabbit among the stems. It is the one people photograph. Good for a child, a birthday, or anyone whose room already has soft things in it.

When fresh flowers are still better

1. A funeral or condolence visit. Fresh flowers fade, and that is the point. A permanent bouquet in a house of mourning can read as tone-deaf.
2. A large event. Weddings and stage decor need volume and scent. Handmade flowers are made one at a time; the maths does not work.
3. When scent is the gift. No yarn flower smells of anything. If they love the smell of jasmine, buy jasmine.

Everywhere else — long distance, small flats, allergies, pets, someone who keeps things — crochet holds up better.

Looking after them

Almost nothing is required. Keep them out of direct sunlight, which fades yarn over months the same way it fades curtains. Dust with a dry brush or a hairdryer on cool. If a bloom gets crushed in transit, steam it lightly and reshape with your fingers.

Bouquets versus flower pots

If the bouquet is for a desk or a shelf rather than a hand, consider a crochet flower pot instead (₹449). A pot stands on its own and does not need a vase, which matters in a hostel room or a rented flat where nobody owns one.

Rough rule: a bouquet is for the moment of giving, a pot is for the year afterwards. If you are handing it over in person and want the reaction, buy the bouquet. If you are posting it to someone who will put it on a desk, buy the pot.

Common questions

How long do crochet flowers actually last?

Years, with ordinary care. The failure mode is not wilting, it is fading — cotton yarn loses colour in strong sunlight over a long period. Away from a south-facing window, they hold their colour indefinitely.

Can I wash them?

Spot-clean only. Dab with a barely damp cloth and let them air-dry. Do not submerge a bouquet — the stems have wire inside and will rust.
